Duct Testing and Sealing

It’s easy to think that the ducts in your home’s walls, ceilings, and attic will remain in the same shape for as long as you live in your house. But ductwork can easily develop air leaks, and this creates major problems. Leaky ducts can mean hot and cold spots in rooms, a drop in air quality, and a steep rise in heating and cooling bills.

Before you start looking for the duct tape, pick up the phone and call Happy Heating & Cooling. We offer duct testing to find out if your ductwork needs repairs. If it does, we’ll do the duct sealing necessary to solve the issue. Call us in Colorado Springs, CO to schedule service. Our motto is “We’re not happy until you’re happy!”

It Starts with Duct Testing

How can you know you have leaking air ducts? There are a few ways to tell: low air flow from the vents, uneven heating around the house, acrid smells on the air from the vents, and steeper than usual heating and cooling costs.

So you think you have leaky ducts. Okay, now how to test the ducts? Don’t worry—that’s our department. We’ll seal off the ventilation system and then raise the pressure inside it. With manometers, we check on the drop in air pressure inside the ducts. The faster the pressure drops, the more leakage is present. We’ll use this information to know where to target our duct sealing.

Duct Sealing from Professionals

No, you can’t use duct tape for this job. Duct tape isn’t even designed for ducts—the name is a mistake. What our professionals do to seal up leaky ducts is use a combination of metallic tapes and mastic sealant. Metallic tapes are the true "duct tape." They create a solid mechanical seal over the duct leak, patching it up. Mastic sealant is a resin–based sealant applied to leaking joints on ducts to make them airtight. Mastic is flexible, so it expands with the ducts as the temperature changes in them.

We Also Offer Duct Repair and Replacement

If we find out that you have a bigger problem in your ductwork than a few small air leaks, we can do the necessary larger duct repair necessary to restore your ventilation system. We may only need to perform some basic repairs to fit ductwork back into place and close up the larger breaches. But we may have to replace parts of the ductwork if it has suffered from serious damage, such as corrosion. We will take care of this job with as little disruption to your house as possible.
